Such a great point, Erica! I always thought there is no word to describe my friendship to Anne. She is not a sister (don’t share biology). She is not a best friend (she shares that with other fabulous humans). She is not a lover (our is not romantic love). Yet she is above and beyond all that - and that I now recognise in what you write about Riya and Selin. Shame on our limiting and limited language!
